In the early evening of Sunday, November 16, 2025, the life of 31-year-old Xavier Trent Igus was cut tragically short in a fatal shooting at the Budgetel Inn & Suites on Victory Drive in Columbus, Georgia. A Black male, Igus was discovered by Columbus Police officers who had responded to a call about a shooting at the hotel at approximately 7:19 p.m. He was suffering from a gunshot wound and was quickly transported by EMS to Piedmont Columbus Regional hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 8:04 p.m. by an emergency room doctor. The Muscogee County Coroner's Office later officially identified Igus and notified his next of kin.
The investigation into the homicide was immediately undertaken by the Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit. For a brief period, the suspect in the deadly shooting remained at large, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the case. However, the diligent work of law enforcement officials led to a swift breakthrough. On November 18, 2025, just two days after the shooting, the Columbus Police Department's Fugitive Unit took a suspect into custody.
The individual arrested in connection with the death of Xavier Igus was identified as 23-year-old Ricky Daniels. Following his arrest, Daniels was charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. He was scheduled for an appearance in Recorder's Court on the morning of Friday, November 21, 2025. The arrest brought a significant development to the investigation, offering a measure of progress in the quest for justice for Xavier Trent Igus and his grieving family.
