In the spring of 1911, a dedicated Columbus Police Officer, Marion Marchant, met a tragic and untimely end. On April 17, 1911, Officer Marchant was killed in the line of duty, a somber event that would be etched into the history of the city's law enforcement. His death was not in vain, as his name would later be inscribed on the Georgia Public Safety Memorial, a lasting tribute to his service and sacrifice.
