In the early evening of Friday, January 24, 2025, a grim discovery was made in Columbus, Georgia. Responding to a call at 5:25 p.m., Columbus Police Officers arrived at the 6500 block of Buena Vista Road to find the body of 17-year-old Rashod Barrett. Barrett, a Black male, was found deceased, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, but their efforts were in vain as Barrett could not be resuscitated.
The Deputy Coroner, Elizabeth Allison, officially pronounced him dead at 6:06 p.m. The nature of his death prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, who are treating the case as a homicide.
