In the early hours of Christmas Eve in 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the holiday peace in Columbus, Georgia, leaving a young man dead and another critically wounded. The shooting took place around 1:00 a.m. in the 1600 block of Baker Plaza Drive. When the violence ceased, 24-year-old Tamareious Miller, a male, was found with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:25 a.m.
The incident also left 18-year-old Jewel Dantzler in critical condition.
Dantzler was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, his condition did not improve, and he was later declared brain dead. He remained on life support so his organs could be donated. A few days later, on December 28, 2022, Jewel Dantzler was pronounced clinically deceased.
The Columbus Police Department's homicide unit launched an investigation into the double homicide. Both Miller and Dantzler were scheduled for autopsies as part of the investigative process. However, information regarding a motive for the shooting has not been publicly released.
As of now, there have been no announced arrests in the case, and the identities of any potential suspects have not been disclosed by law enforcement. The investigation into the deaths of Tamareious Miller and Jewel Dantzler remains ongoing.
