In the new year's early days, the city of Columbus, Georgia, was rocked by its first homicide of 2024. On the evening of Monday, January 8, 2024, 39-year-old William Thomas Brown, a male student at Columbus Technical College, was tragically killed. The fatal incident unfolded inside an apartment on Fort Benning Road, where Brown sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite being rushed to the emergency room at Piedmont Columbus Regional, he was pronounced dead at 6:51 p.m.
The investigation into Brown's death led to a series of arrests over the following months. The first suspect taken into custody was 19-year-old Devaris Binn, who was charged with murder and armed robbery. Soon after, a second 19-year-old, Trinity Farley, was also arrested in connection with the case. The search for others involved continued, and in April, authorities announced the apprehension of three more suspects. Terrell Thomas was arrested in Atlanta and awaited extradition back to Columbus, while Cameron Davis and Jquan Williams were apprehended in Columbus by the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office and the US Marshal's Services. These three individuals also face murder and armed robbery charges, with Thomas facing an additional charge of battery.
As the legal process began to unfold for the apprehended suspects, law enforcement continued their search for at least one more individual believed to be connected to the death of William Thomas Brown. A warrant for murder was issued for 19-year-old Javon Green, who remained at large. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Brown's untimely death is ongoing as the community awaits justice. William Thomas Brown is remembered by his wife, Sholanda R. Brown, a son, a daughter, and a host of other family members and friends.
