In the early hours of a Friday morning in Macon, Georgia, violence shattered the quiet, leaving one man dead and another wounded. On May 22, 2020, 38-year-old Damond Cain Stevens was shot in the side outside an apartment complex near the intersection of Houston Avenue and Cynthia Avenue. The shooting, which occurred around 12:30 a.m., also resulted in injuries to 25-year-old Jacorey Holloway, who was expected to recover.
Both men were transported to a local hospital, but Stevens ultimately succumbed to his injuries, marking Macon-Bibb County's 25th homicide of that year.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the shooting, seeking to understand the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter. Initially, investigators were working to determine the precise location of the shooting and had no immediate information about a suspect. On June 17, 2020, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office announced they had identified a suspect and issued a murder warrant for his arrest. The individual sought in connection with the death of Damond Cain Stevens was identified as 15-year-old Jay'ryon Deshond Earl Willis. Authorities sought the public's assistance in locating the teenage suspect, who was wanted for his alleged role in the shooting near the Bowden Homes apartment complex.
