In the spring of 2020, a life was tragically cut short in Macon, Georgia, over a dispute that had nothing to do with the victim. Douglas Wilmale Stevenson, a 22-year-old male, was sitting in his car in the parking lot of the Riverwalk Apartments on Riverside Drive on the evening of May 12, 2020, just one day before his 23rd birthday.
A large crowd had gathered nearby where an argument had broken out between two women over a cell phone.
The altercation escalated when a man named Terico Little allegedly became involved and fired a gun. Another man, 20-year-old Kendarius Trevon Hill, who was also present but not initially part of the dispute, reportedly joined in and fired his own weapon in Little's direction. In a senseless act of violence, Hill then walked over to the vehicle where Stevenson was an uninvolved bystander and fired multiple shots into the car, striking and killing him. Stevenson was found in his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify Kendarius Trevon Hill as the primary suspect. A few days later, on a late Friday night, a Sandy Springs police officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on Georgia 400 without its headlights or taillights on. The driver of that car was Kendarius Trevon Hill. A check of his information revealed an active murder warrant out of Bibb County. Hill was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bibb County jail, where he was held without bond.
In a Bibb Superior Court hearing on April 24, 2023, Kendarius Trevon Hill, then 23, pleaded guilty to malice murder in the death of Douglas Stevenson. Following his plea, he was sentenced to life in prison. The co-defendant in the case, Terico Little, is still awaiting trial on charges including felony murder for his alleged role in the events that led to Stevenson's death.
