In the early morning hours of a spring day in Macon, Georgia, a visit between friends turned into a scene of tragedy. On April 2, 2016, 22-year-old Wesley Alectus Jr., a male from South Carolina, was at the Shadowood West Apartments on West Highland Drive. He was inside an apartment with two other individuals, visiting a friend who resided there.
Shortly before 5:40 a.m., while he was handling a handgun, the weapon discharged. A single shot struck Alectus in the head.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and he was quickly transported to the Navicent Health Hospital. Medical personnel listed him in critical condition as they worked to save his life.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Wesley Alectus Jr. succumbed to his injuries. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation into the shooting. The initial reports and subsequent information gathered during the investigation indicated that the shooting was accidental. According to the available information, Alectus unintentionally shot himself. There have been no reports of any arrests made or any suspects being sought in connection with this incident.
