In the early morning hours of November 28, 2020, a private vehicle rushed two women to the Navicent Hospital Emergency Room in Macon, Georgia. One of the women, 24-year-old Raiyawna Nibrea Moser-Powell of Byron, was pronounced deceased at the hospital from a gunshot wound. The second victim, 26-year-old Gabrielle Russell of Macon, was also suffering from a gunshot wound but was listed in stable condition. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation to determine the circumstances and location of the shooting.
For several months, the investigation continued as authorities sought to piece together the events that led to Moser-Powell's death. Then, on February 11, 2021, a breakthrough was made in the case. Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, identified 33-year-old Johnny Jaramond Jackson of Macon as the primary suspect.
Later that day, at approximately 6:00 p.m., law enforcement officials located and apprehended Jackson at his residence on Napier Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bibb County Sheriff's Investigations Office for questioning. Following the interrogation, Johnny Jaramond Jackson was transported to the Bibb County Jail, where he was formally charged with the murder of Raiyawna Nibrea Moser-Powell. He is being held without bond.
