In the early hours of March 17, 2024, a dispute in the 800 block of Maynard Street in Macon, Georgia, escalated to a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 28-year-old Shantoria Hines. The Macon-Bibb 911 Center received a call about the shooting at 12:11 a.m., with initial reports indicating two women had been shot following an argument. When sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they learned that both victims had already been taken to a local hospital in a private vehicle.
At the
hospital, Shantoria Hines, a Black female, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. The second victim, identified as 26-year-old Kreo Montgomery, was also treated for a gunshot wound and was listed in stable condition. Hines, known fondly as 'Shan' to her loved ones, was remembered for her passion for basketball and her work in retail in the Bibb County area. She was described as having a love for being around family and friends.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, and on May 2, 2024, investigators arrested 30-year-old Tyrell Shernard Burks of Warner Robins. Burks was charged with one count of murder and six counts of aggravated assault in connection with the incident that led to Hines's death. He was taken into custody and is being held without bond.
