In the spring of 2022, the life of a young mother in Macon, Georgia, was tragically cut short. Gabrilla Elaine Harris, a 27-year-old woman, was shot at the Windy Hill Manor Apartments on Log Cabin Drive on Saturday, May 21, 2022. First responders found her with a gunshot wound and she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into her death quickly focused on her ex-boyfriend, Corey Deshawn Jackson.
Initially, Jackson was a person of interest, and the Bibb County Sheriff's Office sought public assistance in locating him for questioning. He was found and taken into custody shortly after the shooting and was initially charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As the investigation progressed, the charges against Jackson were upgraded to murder.
Prosecutors revealed a history of domestic abuse leading up to the fatal shooting. Jackson had reportedly sent threatening messages to Gabrilla and displayed a pattern of stalking behavior. The conflict escalated as Gabrilla attempted to end their abusive relationship. The tragic events unfolded when Jackson used visitation with the child they shared to continue to force interaction with her.
In June 2025, Corey Jackson, then 31, appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter, as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 30 years, with the first 20 years to be served in prison. The district attorney noted that this was a case of domestic violence that demonstrated a deadly escalation of threats and controlling behavior.
