In the early morning hours of May 5, 2023, the life of 28-year-old Kaneza Rikial Owens was tragically cut short in a violent encounter within her own home at the Green Meadows Apartments on Log Cabin Drive in Macon, Georgia. Bibb County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to her residence shortly before 4 a.m. in response to a domestic dispute. As they arrived, a single gunshot rang out from inside the apartment.
Upon entering the apartment, deputies discovered Kaneza Owens unresponsive.
It was reported that she had been in an argument with her 23-year-old boyfriend, Treyvon Deshun Walker, which escalated to the fatal shooting. Kaneza was immediately transported to Atrium Health, but tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. In the immediate aftermath, Walker fled the scene on foot, prompting a search by law enforcement who considered him armed and dangerous.
The investigation into Kaneza's death quickly focused on Treyvon Walker. Just four days later, on May 9, 2023, he was located and taken into custody by a team of law enforcement officers, including the Bibb County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshals, at a residence on Dexter Avenue. Following his arrest, Walker was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and charged with murder and probation violation. He is being held without bond. The community mourned the loss of Kaneza, a mother to a young daughter, with friends and family gathering for a balloon release to honor her memory and to raise awareness about the devastating impact of domestic violence.
