In the crisp morning air of a November day in Macon, Georgia, a tragedy unfolded that would cut short the life of 49-year-old Claudette June Brown. On November 14, 2022, a private vehicle, its body riddled with bullet holes, rushed to a local hospital carrying Brown, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the urgent medical attention she received, she was pronounced dead at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office was immediately alerted and began an investigation into the violent events that had transpired.
The initial investigation led deputies to Baker Drive, located off Newburg Avenue in the southern part of Macon, which was identified as the scene of the shooting. As law enforcement delved into the circumstances surrounding Brown's death, they began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The case drew the attention of the community as authorities worked to identify those responsible for the senseless act of violence that had claimed a life.
Several months later, a significant breakthrough in the case occurred. On May 24, 2023, investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office received information regarding the whereabouts of a suspect in Claudette Brown's murder. They located Anthony Donnell Baldwin, Jr. near the Tindall Fields apartments. When deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Baldwin, who was driving a stolen GMC Yukon, stopped the vehicle and emerged. He then reached back into the SUV to grab a firearm, which prompted an investigator to fire their weapon, striking Baldwin. He was taken to a medical center for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was also called to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
