In the early hours of a Saturday morning in Macon, Georgia, a life was tragically cut short. On February 15, 2020, 37-year-old Ashley Wease was found with fatal gunshot wounds inside a room at the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites on Chambers Road. Deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about a person shot at the motel shortly before 10 a.m. and discovered Wease unresponsive in room 240.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the Eatonton woman moved swiftly. Within minutes of the shooting, law enforcement officers apprehended a person of interest. The individual, identified as 28-year-old Jerome Christopher Miller of Macon, was taken into custody at the intersection of Eisenhower and Presidential Parkways.
Following questioning by investigators at the Bibb County Sheriff's Investigations Office, Jerome Christopher Miller was arrested and charged with the murder of Ashley Wease. He was subsequently booked into the Bibb County Jail and was being held without bond. The shooting marked the seventh homicide in Macon-Bibb County for the year 2020.
