On Sunday, December 27, 2020, 29-year-old Porcha Nicole Carter, a female corrections officer and dispatcher for the Screven County Sheriff's Office, was shot and killed. The incident, which took place at a laundromat on West Ogeechee Street, has been investigated by the Screven County Sheriff's Office as a murder-suicide.
That evening, Porcha met with Christopher Roberson, the father of her two children, at the local laundromat. The purpose of their meeting was for him to drop off their children. An argument reportedly broke out between the two, tragically escalating to gunfire. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing a single gunshot and seeing Porcha fall to the ground. A second shot was heard moments later as Roberson then took his own life.
