On August 27, 2023, the bodies of Maria Rosaria Montes Dorantes, 23, and her brother, Juan Angel Montes, 16, were discovered on the shoulder of the road near the intersection of Interstate 85 and Interstate 985 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The bodies were found by a passerby who had pulled over due to car trouble and noticed the two bodies about 20 feet away from the road.
