A dispute of a domestic nature culminated in a tragic murder-suicide in Hart County, Georgia, claiming the life of 38-year-old Laurie Weaver Chumley. The events unfolded on the night of Saturday, April 13, 2014, at Froh's Restaurant on Rock Springs Road, where Chumley was an employee.
After the restaurant had closed for the evening, Sammy Chumley, 46, arrived at the establishment armed. He first pursued the restaurant's owner, Jason Forkin, shooting and killing him in an outdoor dining area. Following this, he located his ex-wife, Laurie, inside the restaurant and forced her to leave with him at gunpoint.
Law enforcement was alerted and a search for the couple began. In the early hours of Sunday morning, authorities located the vehicle at a property on Muddy Branch Road near Canon, a place where the couple had previously lived. Inside the vehicle, they discovered Laurie Chumley, who had been fatally shot. Her ex-husband, Sammy Chumley, was also found in the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was placed on life support but later died. The couple had two daughters together. An investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed the incident as a murder-suicide.
