In the quiet community of Hartwell, Georgia, the life of 43-year-old Marilyn Patrice Rucker Clark, an African American woman, was cut short on Friday, March 2, 2018. A certified nursing assistant, she was discovered deceased in her residence on Eagle Grove School Road after the Hart County Sheriff's Office received a call about suspicious activity in the area.
The discovery of her body immediately launched a homicide investigation by local authorities and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Investigators quickly focused on her husband, Tyrus Lyntrail Clark, as the primary suspect in her death. At the time, he was 39 years old. Following the discovery of his wife's body, Tyrus fled the scene, prompting law enforcement to issue a murder warrant for his arrest. Authorities believed he might have been heading towards the Athens, Georgia area and issued a public alert for his vehicle, a burgundy 2001 Ford F-150 truck.
A few days later, the search for Tyrus Clark came to an end in Anderson, South Carolina. He was located and apprehended at a motel without incident, an arrest made possible through the coordinated efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the Anderson Police Department. He was initially held at the Anderson County Detention Center on a fugitive-from-justice charge, awaiting extradition back to Georgia to face a series of charges. The charges against him included felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, and concealing the death of another. Reports indicated that the couple had a history of domestic issues.
