In May of 2021, a tragic sequence of events unfolded, leading to the untimely death of 33-year-old Tykeisha Marie Dixon, a Black female from Roswell, Georgia. The harrowing story began to unravel when family members reported both Tykeisha and her 39-year-old husband, Luther 'Luke' Lee Henderson Jr., missing on May 8, 2021. The couple had reportedly been arguing on the evening of May 6th before they were last seen.
The investigation took a grim turn when, in the early morning hours of May
8th, Tykeisha's body was discovered in the roadway at the intersection of Illinois State Route 143 and Goshen Road, just outside of Edwardsville, Illinois, over 500 miles from her Georgia home. The nature of her injuries immediately suggested foul play, prompting the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to launch a homicide investigation. Authorities in Illinois were initially perplexed as there was no evidence to suggest that either Tykeisha or her husband had any connections to the Madison County, Illinois area.
As investigators delved deeper, the case was transferred to the Atlanta Police Department after evidence indicated that the homicide had actually occurred in Atlanta. It was later determined that Tykeisha had been shot and killed in Northeast Atlanta on May 6, 2021, two days before her body was found. According to reports, the couple was in the car together when Henderson allegedly took Tykeisha's cellphone and threw it out of the vehicle on North Avenue in Atlanta.
With the investigation now centered in Atlanta, Luther Henderson became the primary suspect in his wife's murder. He remained at large for a period, prompting a public appeal for information on his whereabouts. The search for Henderson came to an end on May 22, 2021, when he was apprehended by the Tukwila Police Department just outside of Seattle, Washington, on an outstanding warrant for Felony Murder issued by the Atlanta Police Department. Following his arrest, Henderson awaited extradition back to Atlanta to face charges related to his wife's death. In addition to murder, he was also charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and Cruelty to Children.
