In a tragic and violent turn of events, 24-year-old Kaliyah Ratliff of Douglasville, Georgia, was killed on June 6, 2021. The young woman's life was cut short by her estranged husband, 34-year-old Udoamaka Nwamu, in a horrifying murder-suicide that also claimed the life of her mother.
The incident unfolded on a Sunday morning at the home of Ratliff's parents on Long Lake Drive, where she had recently moved after separating from Nwamu. He forced his way into the residence, opening fire and prompting multiple 911 calls from the neighborhood. When Douglas County sheriff's deputies arrived, they were met with gunfire from inside the home. The situation quickly escalated into a standoff, with a SWAT team and a hostage negotiator being called to the scene.
As negotiations were underway, a single gunshot was heard from within the house. The SWAT team immediately made entry and discovered a gruesome scene. Both Kaliyah Ratliff and her 46-year-old mother, Nikita Green, were found deceased, having been shot by Nwamu. The suspect, Udoamaka Nwamu, was also found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Some reports indicated that Ratliff's father was also shot in the leg during the assault.
Prior to the deadly attack, Nwamu had posted a cryptic message on his Facebook page, stating, 'To all my loved ones I love you. It's been real.' The investigation confirmed that the incident was a murder-suicide, and as the perpetrator took his own life, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Kaliyah Ratliff and her mother.
