In a tragic and violent turn of events, 46-year-old Nikita Green and her 24-year-old daughter, Kaliyah Nwamu, were killed in what authorities have described as a double murder-suicide in Douglasville, Georgia. The incident, which cut short the lives of a mother and daughter, unfolded on June 6, 2021, leaving a family and community in mourning.
On that Sunday morning, Udoamaka Nwamu, 34, who was estranged from his wife Kaliyah, traveled to his in-laws' residence on Long Lake Drive. There, he initiated an attack by firing shots into both the front and back of the house. The sound of gunfire prompted multiple 911 calls, and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene. Before law enforcement could arrive, Nwamu had forcibly entered the home.
Upon their arrival, deputies were met with gunfire from inside the residence, forcing them to take cover and call for the assistance of an emergency response team and a hostage negotiator. During the ensuing negotiations with Udoamaka Nwamu, a single gunshot was heard from within the house. The emergency response team then made entry and discovered three bodies.
Inside, they found the bodies of Nikita Green and her daughter, Kaliyah Nwamu. Both women had been fatally shot. The authorities also found the body of Udoamaka Nwamu, who had died from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation concluded that Nwamu had murdered his estranged wife and mother-in-law before taking his own life.
