In a quiet Douglasville, Georgia neighborhood, a sunny Saturday afternoon in February 7, 2015 turned into a scene of unimaginable horror. Latoya Andrews, a 33-year-old female, became a victim of a brutal murder-suicide perpetrated by her ex-husband, 33-year-old Cedric Prather. The horrific events unfolded on Willow Tree Circle, leaving a lasting scar on the community.
The tragedy was rooted in a domestic dispute, reportedly fueled by disagreements over child support and taxes. Prather, dressed in black, was seen pacing and talking on his cell phone before he entered his ex-wife's home armed with a. 45 caliber handgun. Inside, he shot and killed Latoya Andrews and her boyfriend, 33-year-old Joseph Brown.
The violence then spilled outside. Witnesses heard the desperate pleas of one of the children, screaming, 'No! Daddy! Please Daddy! No Daddy!'. Prather pursued the children and opened fire in the street. The gunfire claimed the lives of two of his and Latoya's children, a 7-year-old and a 9-year-old. Two other children, an 8-year-old and a 15-year-old, were critically injured in the rampage. After his horrific acts, Cedric Prather turned the gun on himself, ending his own life at the scene. The incident left a total of five people dead, including Prather, and two children fighting for their lives. Law enforcement officials who arrived at the scene described it as the worst they had witnessed in two decades of service.
