A breakthrough in the case came in August 2024, nearly three years to the day of the tragic shooting. The Albany Police Department announced the arrest of 35-year-old Gernardric Deangelo Pittman. He was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The arrest was made possible after a woman came forward with a video that had reportedly been circulating for years and was crucial to identifying a suspect. At the time of the arrest, police indicated that they expected to make more arrests in connection with the case.
