In the late hours of a September night in Albany, Georgia, a discovery was made that would forever alter the lives of one family. On September 25, 2015, the body of 31-year-old Kenneth Dewan Washington, a male, was found face down in an alley near the 700 block of West Roosevelt Avenue. Responding to a 'man down' call, officers from the Albany Police Department arrived at the scene to find Washington deceased. Initially, the cause of death was not immediately apparent to investigators, partly due to Washington's thick dreadlocks which obscured the fatal injury.
An autopsy would later confirm the grim reality that investigators had suspected: Kenneth Washington had died from a gunshot wound to the head. This confirmation officially turned the case into a homicide investigation, prompting a search for the person or persons responsible for this violent act. Weeks later, a breakthrough in the case came when authorities made an arrest. On November 4, 2015, Calvin Louis Brown Jr., 24 years old at the time, was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Kenneth Dewan Washington. In addition to the murder charge, Brown also faced charges of probation violation, parole violation, aggravated assault, and felony tampering with evidence. He was subsequently held at the Dougherty County Jail without bond, bringing a measure of resolution to the initial phase of the investigation into Washington's untimely death.
