Raven Fulton, a 21-year-old Black male, left Warrenton on August 31, 2021, and ended up at Castle Pines Mobile Home Park on Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta, where the night turned deadly. Reports from the time say he was shot at about 7:33 p.m. at the trailer park. He was found with at least one gunshot wound and rushed to Augusta University Medical Center, but despite that effort he was pronounced dead at 12:04 a.m. the following morning.
The killing stunned people in both Augusta and Warren County, because what began as an evening confrontation at a mobile home park ended with a young man’s life cut short before the night was over.
Online reporting consistently identified the man arrested in the case as Peter Berkery, who was 38 at the time. Authorities said he was apprehended at the scene, making this one of those cases where the first major question, who might have done it, was answered almost immediately.
