In the late summer of 2021, the life of a young father was tragically cut short in Decatur, Georgia. Justin Maurell Johnson, a 29-year-old male, was fatally shot on September 18, 2021. Originally from Medina, New York, Johnson had moved to Decatur in 2020 to be closer to his mother and was working as a supervisor at FedEx. He was a devoted father to his three children.
The incident that led to Johnson's death occurred on Williamsburg Drive in Decatur. He was shot multiple times. In the weeks following the shooting, law enforcement officials worked to identify and apprehend the person responsible for this act of violence.
Their investigation led them to a suspect, and on October 14, 2021, a 19-year-old from Stone Mountain, Georgia, named Jacquez LaJuan Freeman, surrendered to authorities at the DeKalb County Jail. An arrest warrant was issued for Freeman, charging him with murder in connection with Justin Johnson's death. Freeman was subsequently held at the DeKalb County Jail without bond.
