Inside a vehicle sat four-year-old Miyell Hernandez, a male, along with his infant sister and a 13-year-old relative. His mother had briefly stepped away, entering the grocery store on Panola Road to purchase a birthday cake for the children's grandfather. Somehow, young Miyell discovered a handgun that had been left unsecured within the car. A single, accidental shot rang out, filling the vehicle with smoke and shattering the calm of the day. The teenage relative, in a state of shock and panic, immediately ran from the car and into the grocery store to alert Miyell's mother and seek help.
