A Black man, Harold Irving, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Jonesboro, Georgia, on April 14, 2022. The 36-year-old was driving his black Jeep Cherokee when a gray Kia Soul pulled alongside him at a red light on S. Main Street and Betty Tallmadge Avenue. Gunshots were fired from the rear passenger side of the Kia, striking Irving. He was transported to Southern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to his back left side.
Following an extensive investigation that involved reviewing cell phone records, and surveillance footage, and speaking with witnesses, Clayton County Police identified three suspects. In February 2023, nearly a year after the shooting, authorities arrested Kenneth Hill, Myron Jones, and Gayla Michel. All three were charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. They were booked into the Fulton County Jail and held without bond. The trials for Hill, Jones, and Michel were scheduled to begin in August 2023. However, the outcome of these trials has not been publicly reported.
