In the light of a crisp autumn afternoon, the life of 16-year-old Robert 'Rob' Shaw, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire. On October 10, 2022, a little after 3:00 p.m., the sounds of gunshots shattered the everyday calm at the Riverwood Townhouses on Flint River Road in Jonesboro, Georgia. When the chaos subsided, Robert and 19-year-old Kameron Jones were found shot. Robert was discovered in a pool of blood, having been struck in the back of his head and neck. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal. Kameron Jones died at the scene.
Robert, who had just celebrated his 16th birthday, was described by his mother, Shekia Shaw, as a good kid who loved to play softball and create dance videos for TikTok. She firmly believes her son was not the intended target and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The family, overwhelmed by grief, held a candlelight vigil to honor his memory and made a heartfelt plea for an end to the senseless gun violence that took his life.
The Clayton County Police Department launched a double homicide investigation into the deaths of Robert and Kameron.
