In a tragic turn of events on the evening of December 8, 2016, an argument between two teenage co-workers at a McDonald's in Jonesboro, Georgia, ended in a fatal shooting. Christopher Chambers, an 18-year-old African American male, was shot and killed by his 16-year-old colleague, Corey Anderson Love. The dispute reportedly stemmed from Love's belief that Chambers had stolen his wallet and cell phone.
The incident unfolded at the McDonald's located on Tara Boulevard where both young men were employees. Witnesses stated that Love entered the restaurant and confronted Chambers, who was behind the counter. The altercation escalated, leading to Love shooting Chambers near the drive-thru area while customers were present in the establishment. After the shooting, Love fled the scene on foot.
Law enforcement officers arrived to find Chambers unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation into the homicide pointed to the dispute over the allegedly stolen items as the motive for the deadly confrontation.
Following the incident, Corey Anderson Love later surrendered himself to authorities at the Clayton County Police Department's North Precinct. Despite his age, it was decided that Love would be charged as an adult. He faced charges of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault and was held at a regional youth detention center.
