In the late summer of 2022, the life of a young Atlanta teenager, Quintin 'StreetMoney Quint' Mack, was tragically cut short. The 14-year-old African American male was fatally shot on the evening of August 23rd outside a restaurant in southeast Atlanta.
Quintin had just picked up a to-go order from the Phat Phish Café located on Fayetteville Road near Flat Shoals Road.
As he stepped outside, gunshots rang out, and he collapsed on the sidewalk just a few feet from the restaurant's entrance. Despite being rushed to a nearby children's hospital, Quintin succumbed to his injuries. A memorial was later set up outside the restaurant to honor his memory.
The investigation into the shooting led Atlanta police to identify 23-year-old Cecil Adkison as the suspect. On September 20, 2022, after a brief standoff at a relative's home in Decatur, Adkison was taken into custody by the Atlanta Police Department's Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service. He was subsequently charged with felony murder. While a motive for the shooting has not been publicly disclosed, authorities utilized security camera footage from the area to help identify and locate Adkison.
Quintin's family, including his aunt, expressed a sense of relief following the arrest. They remembered him as a vibrant young man who had a passion for music and was often seen with drumsticks in his hands. His loved ones held a celebration of life service for him on September 7, 2022, as they continued to mourn the senseless loss of a young life to gun violence.
