On April 26, 1971, a 28-year-old white male named Obediah Reaves was at his job as a security guard at the Star Loan Company located at 227 Mitchell St. in Atlanta, Georgia. During his shift, two men entered the business in an attempt to commit a robbery.
In an act of bravery, Reaves attempted to intervene and stop the robbery by trying to jump one of the gunmen. Tragically, during the struggle, he was shot in the head.
Emergency services were called, and Reaves was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene. One of the men was seen getting into a 1966 blue Mustang, which was driven by a third accomplice who had been waiting outside. The other suspect managed to escape on foot by ducking into a nearby alley. The case of Obediah Reaves's murder remains unsolved, and no arrests have ever been made in connection with the crime. It is now considered a cold case by the Atlanta Police Department.
