On the evening of October 14, 19-year-old Chamon Sanders was found shot to death in the 1800 block of Meadow Lane. Sanders, who was originally from Las Vegas, had reportedly come to the Atlanta area to spend time with his family. The circumstances that led to his death began to unfold as investigators spoke with his 22-year-old sister, who was present during the fatal
encounter.
According to the sister's account to the police, she had driven her brother to the location to meet with several individuals. The purpose of the meeting was for Sanders to sell firearms to these individuals, a transaction that had been arranged by his 17-year-old brother over the phone. While inside the sister's vehicle, a dispute broke out between Sanders and the potential buyers over the payment for the guns. The argument quickly escalated, and the suspects exited the car with the firearms.
What followed was a hail of gunfire directed at the vehicle. The sister's car was riddled with bullets, with the front windshield, passenger-side doors, and rear of the vehicle all sustaining damage. In the midst of the chaos, Chamon Sanders got out of the car. His sister, in a state of panic, drove away from the scene. The investigation later revealed blood in the front passenger seat of her white Toyota. The authorities have not publicly stated if more arrests are anticipated in connection with the case.
The investigation into the death of Chamon Sanders led to the arrest of two suspects the following week. Jaushawn Davis, a 17-year-old from Mableton, and Christian Boyd, also 17, from Powder Springs, were taken into custody. Both teenagers are facing serious charges for their alleged involvement in the incident. The charges include murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Family members, grieving the sudden loss, set up a GoFundMe campaign to honor his memory. They described Chamon as a beacon of light in their family, a respectful young man who was always smiling, making jokes, and showing love to everyone he met.
