In the early morning hours of October 16, 2022, a party in East Dublin, Georgia, took a tragic turn, ending the life of 24-year-old Cordeveon King. An African American male from Dublin, King was attending a gathering at a residence on St. Charles Drive when an altercation erupted between him and another guest, 25-year-old Nicholas Parks, also of Dublin. The dispute escalated, culminating in Parks fatally shooting King. The Laurens County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene at approximately 3:48 a.m. and, upon arrival, pronounced King dead.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to lead the homicide investigation. Their inquiry revealed that the shooting was the result of the dispute between King and Parks. The day after the fatal incident, on October 17, 2022, the GBI arrested Nicholas Parks. He was subsequently charged with felony murder in connection with Cordeveon King's death.
Cordeveon King was remembered as a young man with a heart of gold who was devoted to his three children. A graduate of East Laurens High School, he was employed at Walmart at the time of his passing. The case proceeded through the legal system, and in April 2025, Nicholas Parks was sentenced for his role in King's death. A judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole. During the sentencing, it was noted that evidence from the trial showed King had fallen and was shot repeatedly.
