In the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the life of Jimquez Nikwon Smith, a 26-year-old Black male from Dublin, Georgia, was tragically cut short. The day began like any other in the quiet residential area, but the peace was shattered by an act of violence that would leave a family and community searching for answers. Smith, known to his loved ones as a man who enjoyed the simple peace of fishing and had a talent for fixing anything from cars to plumbing, was also a loving father to his two daughters, who were the center of his world.

Around 9:00 a.m., a passerby made a grim discovery on Kingsby Street, finding Smith lying wounded in the road. A 911 call was promptly made, and police officers were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of Kingsby and Telfair streets. First responders found that Smith had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to the nearby Fairview Park Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe. Less than an hour after being found, Jimquez Smith succumbed to his wound and was pronounced dead.

The Dublin Police Department quickly requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to lead the inquiry into the apparent homicide. Investigators began to piece together the events of that morning, and Smith's body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy to aid in the investigation. Despite the ongoing efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The case remains an active and open investigation, with authorities appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the person or persons responsible for Smith's death. The community is left to wait for justice as a family mourns the loss of a father, son, and brother.
