In the spring of 2015, just two weeks shy of his high school graduation, 19-year-old Jaquel Octavius Robinson's promising future was tragically cut short. On the night of Saturday, April 4, 2015, the young man from Tennille, Georgia, was attending a prom after-party with his girlfriend at Club Illusions on Union Street in Dublin. What should have been a night of celebration turned into a scene of violence when gunfire erupted outside the club.
An honor student and football player at Washington County High School, Jaquel was known for his love of basketball and his ability to make people laugh. His family described him as a bright young man with dreams of joining the Army or becoming a rapper. Investigators believe he was an innocent bystander in the shooting that also wounded a 19-year-old Johnson County woman, Anteria Willliams. Jaquel was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Macon.
Despite the presence of over 100 people at the party, the investigation into Jaquel's death has been met with a wall of silence. For a decade, his family has been left with unanswered questions and a holiday weekend forever marred by his loss. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case, but to date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
