In the quiet town of Covington, Georgia, a tragic story unfolded on the night of October 27, 2021, forever altering the lives of a family. Levoy Brown, a 30-year-old male, was at the home of his sister, Fulton County Sheriff's Deputy Shakeema Brown Jackson, when both of their lives were cut short by gunfire. The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Windcrest Drive, was initially reported as a home invasion.
Responding deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Office arrived to a grim scene, finding the bodies of both Levoy Brown and his sister inside the residence. Shakeema Jackson's husband, Jaquavia Jackson, was present at the scene and told investigators that two unknown men had broken into their home and committed the heinous act. However, as the investigation progressed, inconsistencies in his account began to emerge. A neighbor's security camera footage showed no evidence of any intruders entering or leaving the house around the time of the murders.
The investigation took a sharp turn, and suspicion fell upon Jaquavia Jackson. Two days after the murders, he was arrested and charged in connection with the deaths of his wife and brother-in-law. The motive for this devastating act of violence was later revealed to be a desperate attempt by Jaquavia to conceal his infidelity from his wife. Prosecutors disclosed that Shakeema and Jaquavia had been subpoenaed to appear in court the morning after the killings regarding paternity claims from two other women with whom Jaquavia had fathered children. It was alleged that he had submitted fraudulent DNA tests and that the court hearing would have exposed his deceit.
In a premeditated effort to prevent his secrets from coming to light, Jaquavia Jackson shot and killed his wife as she relaxed on the couch, and then turned the weapon on her brother, Levoy Brown. To support his fabricated story of a home invasion, he even fired a staged shot into the house to make it appear as though he had engaged in a gunfight with the supposed intruders. In July 2023, a Newton County jury found Jaquavia Jackson guilty of two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony for the murders of Levoy Brown and Shakeema Brown Jackson. He was subsequently held in the Newton County Jail pending his sentencing.
