Michael Avon Williams, a 62-year-old African American man, was found dead on May 6, 2017, in Covington, Georgia. His body was discovered burning in a wooded area near Washington Street and Old Brown Bridge Road. The Covington Police Department responded to the scene after two individuals flagged down a Newton County sheriff’s deputy to report a large amount of smoke coming from the woods.
