In a tragic turn of events on a September afternoon in Covington, Georgia, a young man's life was cut short in an act of domestic violence that also claimed the life of his mother. Robert Kelli-Davis, a 21-year-old male, was fatally shot on September 17, 2015, inside his family's home on Helm Drive. His mother, 43-year-old Bernadene S. Lebert-Davis, was also killed in the incident.
The initial call to emergency services came from a man who identified himself as a relative and admitted to
shooting two family members. When Newton County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the residence, they found the caller, 49-year-old Robert Davis, waiting for them. He was taken into custody without incident. Inside the home, deputies discovered the bodies of his wife and son, Robert Kelli-Davis.
Robert Davis was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of his wife and son. While a motive for the killings was not immediately released by law enforcement, it was reported that police had been called to the home on at least three prior occasions.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, surviving family members, including the couple's two daughters, expressed a sense of shock and forgiveness towards their father. Despite their grief, they reportedly visited him in jail. The bodies of Robert Kelli-Davis and his mother were taken to the GBI crime lab for autopsies. Robert Kelli-Davis was described as a talented young man who was an artist with a love for music and had been an elite athlete in high school, playing basketball, football, and soccer. He was studying for a career in real estate at the time of his death.
