In the early morning hours of May 14, 2017, a night of socializing at Club One World in Dublin, Georgia, turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy. Twenty-eight-year-old Kelvis Whitley, an African American man from the nearby town of Wrightsville, was fatally shot following an altercation inside the crowded nightclub. The gunfire erupted amidst approximately 300 patrons, sending people fleeing into the night and leaving a devastating scene for first responders. Whitley was rushed to Fairview Park Hospital, but he was pronounced dead at around 3 a.m.
The violence of that morning also left two other men, Miles Hamilton and Tarius Newsome, wounded by the gunfire.
