In a tragic turn of events on a Friday afternoon in Dublin, Georgia, 13-year-old Travion Wright lost his life to a gunshot wound. The incident, which occurred on June 25, 2021, at a residence on Mimosa Drive, was initially investigated by the Dublin Police Department as a homicide. The call reporting the shooting came in around 2:30 p.m., and upon arrival, authorities found the young male victim.
Travion, born on October 17, 2007, was a student at Dublin Middle School. He was known for his love of family, basketball, fishing, and gaming. His obituary described him as a rising star in basketball who also had a talent for dancing and comedy, and who cherished spending time with his brother and father.
As the investigation progressed, the narrative of a homicide began to shift. Initially, it was reported that the shooting may have been a drive-by, but this was later corrected by law enforcement. The focus of the investigation turned inward, toward the events that transpired within the home.
The investigation concluded that the shooting was accidental. Travion's 12-year-old brother was identified as the individual responsible for the fatal shot. According to Dublin Police Chief Tim Chatman, the younger brother had been playing with a gun when it accidentally discharged, striking and killing Travion. Following this determination, the 12-year-old was charged with involuntary manslaughter. Due to his status as a juvenile, his name was not publicly released.
