On the night of November 9, 2022, a 24-year-old male named Kaleel Goss was fatally shot outside a Waffle House on Flat Shoals Road in Decatur, Georgia. Goss, who worked as a cook at the restaurant, was not on duty that evening. He had just finished his EMT classes for the day and had stopped at his workplace to get something to eat.
The conflict began when Goss's coworkers allowed him inside the restaurant, which angered some customers who were waiting outside and could only place orders at the window. After eating, as Goss was getting into his car to leave, the angered customers, who were still outside, opened fire on him. Witnesses reported that shots were fired into his car. A waitress yelled for him to get out of the car and run to the back door of the restaurant. As he tried to flee towards the back, he was shot in the back and collapsed. Goss, who was unarmed, was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
In the wake of the shooting, authorities identified and arrested a suspect named Donald Kidd. He was taken into custody and booked into the DeKalb County Jail on a charge of malice murder. Police also stated that they were searching for a second individual believed to have been involved in the incident. Kidd was being held without bond.
