On December 21, 2022, Marcus Terrell Spellers, a 44-year-old Black male, was found dead near the Brown Avenue Overpass in Columbus, Georgia. According to the Muscogee County Coroner, Spellers died from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 11:25 a.m. The Columbus Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately took over the investigation into his death.
