In a tragic turn of events on Mother's Day, May 13, 2018, Cornelius Swopshire, a 65-year-old African American man, was found shot to death in the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee. His body was discovered in a field near Wilson and Tulane around 9 a.m. by individuals who were in the area. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
