between Mueller and Nicholas Kyle Keefer, a 21-year-old man who was present at the scene. Keefer was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder. According to police reports, Keefer shot Mueller following an argument. During the investigation, Keefer provided multiple false statements to the authorities, attempting to mislead them about the circumstances of the shooting. He initially claimed that Mueller had tossed the gun, causing it to accidentally discharge. However, further investigation determined that Keefer had intentionally fired the weapon.
Keefer's actions following the shooting further complicated the case. He attempted to hide the gun in a nightstand and instructed his girlfriend to apply pressure to Mueller's wound. It took approximately 20 minutes for anyone in the house to call 911, which raised additional concerns about the events leading up to the emergency call. Keefer's attempts to conceal the truth and his delayed response in seeking help for Mueller were critical factors in the investigation.
As the case progressed, Keefer was held at the Seminole County Correctional Facility.
