On October 22, 2023, 16-year-old JaMarcus Decameron "JP" Parker was fatally shot at the Stratford Point Apartments in Sanford, Florida. The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. Parker was socializing with friends in the apartment complex's parking lot when two individuals approached and opened fire. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
The assailants arrived in a burgundy Kia, exited the vehicle, and began shooting at the group before fleeing the scene. Investigations revealed that Parker was the intended target, suggesting the attack was not random. Authorities identified the vehicle and its registered owner, leading to the arrests of 18-year-old Jackie Irving Jr. and 17-year-old Princeton Postell. Both were indicted by a Seminole County Grand Jury on charges of first-degree premeditated murder. Postell, though a minor, is being charged as an adult.
Parker was a student at Journeys Academy in Sanford. The Seminole County Public Schools expressed deep sorrow over his death and provided grief counselors for students and staff. A vigil held at Fort Mellon Park allowed family and friends to honor his memory. His mother, Jamecia Parker, described him as a loving and ambitious young man, lamenting the loss of witnessing his future milestones.
