On April 9, 2024, 17-year-old Sadarion Cosby was shot and killed in Sanford, Florida, during a drug deal that turned into a robbery. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Ellen Place and Scott Drive in the Washington Oaks neighborhood. Cosby and three associates approached a parked black Kia K5 sedan, intending to conduct a drug exchange.
However, the situation escalated when one of Cosby's group, later identified as 21-year-old Terrell Walker, pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the driver of the Kia.
The driver, fearing for his life, pulled out his own gun and fired one shot, which struck Cosby in the abdomen as he was leaning on the car window. Following the shooting, Cosby's associates fled the scene, but two individuals, one wearing a multi-colored hoodie, returned briefly to assist Cosby. They took him to a nearby house, where the occupants drove him to the hospital. Despite these efforts, Cosby died from his injuries shortly after arrival.
The investigation, led by the Sanford Police Department, revealed that the shooting was captured on video surveillance from several angles. Deputy Chief Trekelle Perkins stated that the driver of the Kia fired his weapon in self-defense as he was being robbed. The police have identified one of Cosby's associates, a 15-year-old boy named Zion Carter, who has been arrested and charged with second-degree felony murder and attempted robbery with a firearm.
A warrant has been issued for Terrell Walker, who is believed to be the individual wearing the multi-colored hoodie and who allegedly returned fire at the Kia driver as he was running away. Walker also faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm. Police are still seeking a third unidentified suspect involved in the incident.
