Jaitoryon Lamont McNair, a 16-year-old from Sanford, Florida, tragically lost his life on August 12, 2021, in a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred around 6:35 p.m. on the front porch of his home located on Hays Drive. According to reports, multiple gunshots were fired from a black, four-door sedan, which then sped away from the scene. Jaitoryon was found suffering from several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.
His sister was also grazed by a bullet during the shooting. The Sanford Police Department has indicated that the shooting was not a random act and that Jaitoryon was likely targeted.
The investigation into Jaitoryon's death has been challenging for law enforcement. Despite efforts to gather information, there have been very few leads. The police have released images of the vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting, hoping that someone might recognize it and provide crucial information. However, as of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified. The lack of cooperation from potential witnesses has further complicated the investigation. Family members of the victim have been subpoenaed but have failed to appear, leaving the case at a standstill.
Jaitoryon's mother, Letsy Perrin, has been vocal about her desire for justice. She has urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the pain and loss her family has endured. Jaitoryon was a student at Oviedo High School and had aspirations of joining the service after graduation. His untimely death has left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who continue to seek answers and justice for the young life that was taken too soon. The Sanford Police Department continues to investigate the case, but without new leads or suspect information, progress remains slow.
