On the evening of December 19, 2016, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of the 2400 block of Rayner Avenue in Baltimore, leaving two young men critically wounded. One of those men was Anthony Lasalle Brown, a 22-year-old Black / African American male. He, along with another victim, was struck by bullets in what authorities described as a double shooting.
Rushed from the scene of the violence, Brown was taken to a local hospital, clinging to life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved too severe. Anthony Lasalle Brown succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead later that same night. The second victim in the shooting was also hospitalized in critical condition, his fate hanging precariously in the balance.
In the days that followed, the Baltimore Police Department's homicide detectives took charge of the investigation into Brown's death. The motive for the shooting remained elusive in the immediate aftermath, and the authorities did not publicly identify any suspects.
