Daniel Stephen "Dan" Bessant, a 25-year-old police officer from Oceanside, California, tragically lost his life on December 20, 2006. Officer Bessant was responding to a routine traffic stop in the northeast part of the city when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. when Officer Karina Pina requested backup during a vehicle code violation stop.
